The Feedback Analysis Framework

Step 1: Categorize by Type

Not all feedback is the same. Start by sorting into four buckets:

Step 4: Identify Themes

After categorizing ~50-100 pieces of feedback, patterns emerge. Group related items into themes:

  • "Slack integration" (6 mentions)

Themes become potential projects. The number of mentions helps prioritize.

3. Ignoring Positive Feedback

Praise tells you what to protect. If customers love your onboarding, don't "optimize" it into something worse.

4. Over-Categorizing

Five categories are enough. Ten feels manageable. Twenty becomes maintenance hell. Keep it simple.

5. Analyzing Without Acting

The point of analysis is action. Every monthly review should produce at least one concrete next step.

Great feedback analysis answers three questions:
